Ollie Johnston, Good-bye

Posted by KupaMan - April 16th, 2008

Unfortunately my last post was to say goodbye to another hero of mine. But this one hurts a bit more. Ollie Johnston died at the age of 95 on April 14th.

Ollie Johnston was a champ. But not just any champ. In fact, he was one of only nine champs. One of the guys that brought the world of animation to life. One of the guys that this site couldn't exist without the contributions of. Ollie and the rest of the Nine Old Men were responsible for the Golden Age of Animation, which gave birth to techniques used across the planet. The skills he developed have become a cornerstone of animation education.

Ollie's death marks an end to an era. He will be missed, but his impact is unquestionable and everlasting.

Yeah, I heard : (

But still, 95 is an amazing age to reach. He did well and made some amazing cartoons too. RIP Ollie

Yeah. He clearly wasn't taken before his time. But it's still kind of sad to see the last one go.

WHAT'S GOING ON!?! Every legend of the screen is dying.

Thanks, it's because of your comment that I learnt of this man and his work.

Goodbye Mr Rufus, you were a wonderful old cat.

i was hoping at some point to drag myself to one of the houses of the 9 old men, or the original merry melodies directors and camp outside until they taught me how to animate well

so much for that!!!!!

they are all gone now, and have taken their skills with them

Yeah, damn shame.

Here's to hoping we as animators do something even remotely meaningful with our lives and leave a mark like he did.

RIP Ollie.

And now Bambi lost her father, too.

He would have liked it more if you'd told him you revered him before he died rather than after, I'm sure :/ But lenko's right, when you make it to 95 then you've been around long enough to see the fruits of your entire life come to pass, and if ever he was sure of the immortality of his work, then at you can bet he was at his age. There's no tragedy in that.

However, I know how you could honor his memory in the best posible way: finish a @!(%$(&! cartoon you slacker.

Honor his mark with dick jokes and non sequitur violence, executed with tweens of a redneck named Ingus?

Let's face it, Ingus 9 probably won't get finished. I'm onto my second Metal Gear skit, am writing a comic, and helping my friend make two games, WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!!

95 is an impressive age though. RIP Ollie.

Now who's going to voice the two old guys in Brad Bird movies?

WE WANT A CARTOON >:U! I think is what Swain was getting at.
