I wish I could have enjoyed this. Unfortunately, hitting the Z key while moving only registers about 40% of the time, which is problematic when it's one of two controls in a game almost entirely dedicated to moving and jumping on small platforms or through dangerous paths. I tried this on two different devices in case it was an error on my end, but that does not appear to be the case.

platformalist responds:

Hi KupaMan!

Sorry that you had a rough time with the game! I'm beginning to think that people's main issue with the Z button is because I don't have a grace period on the edge of blocks - if I had a 1-2 frame grace period to allow easier jumping, more of the Z presses would register. Sorry that it was a game-breaker for you, and I really appreciate the feedback!

Seems to borrow a lot from Super Meat Boy -- dense character, prominent saw blade hazards, control facsimile -- without bringing much else to the table. It mostly works well, but the liberal hit detection makes for some annoying "shoulda worked" dodge failures. I also oftentimes found myself stuck on corners of the environment.
I have to give credit to the game for being responsive and smooth, but there were some annoying issues that I wish were taken care of ("Can I jump with the Up Key? Oh, of course not, because that's still scrolling up and down on the browser page").

Also, you mention in your Author Comments that the lag "may be a Newgrounds issue." Bad form. Also not true. Don't throw under the bus the guys who are hosting your game, and advertising it on the front page, for free.

sqiddster responds:

I only say the lag may be a Newgrounds issue, as I have not experienced it elsewhere. I am of course very grateful to Newgrounds for hosting the game!

Retro graphics can't compensate for bad design

This is not a good game. I appreciate the old school design gone for here, but it's been done so much already, and far more successfully. It feel slow and sluggish, jumping feel imprecise, and the manner in which obstacles are generated make for occasionally impossible instances. It seems like not enough thought was put into that. With avoidance games, if you want people shooting for high scores, you have to make it possible -- albeit a challenge -- at all times. Within a matter of seconds, I had an obstacle above and below, with no possible way to avoid both.

miloqgames responds:

You're right. I will improve the game next time. Thanks for the advice! :-)

Odd, interesting, tiny

The simple graphics look nice with the simple mechanics, and the levels do a decent job at adding increasingly difficult obstacles. But why so small? I know it is probably the way you wanted it, but it's not ideal when I have to zoom my browser in and lean closer to my screen just so see what's happening.
The game design itself could have benefited from a menu or stage select or something. Instead, we get the barest of bones here. A decent game was made here, but a lot of small things could have taken it a long way.

Kcori responds:

I completely agree with everything you said. The tiny game size is one of the strangest decisions I've ever made, and I certanily won't be doing that again.

Thanks for the review.

A whole lot of puzzling fun

There's a lot to like here. It's really slick, simple, and addictive. There's no struggle against the controls, which plagues a lot of flash games, just creative puzzle design. The levels vary pretty significantly in difficulty, however, which seems to dilute the sense of skill progression. Other than that, it's a near-perfect puzzle game that could excel on just about any platform. I look forward to seeing where this might go in the future (iOS, PSN, XBLA, Steam).

Nutcasenightmare responds:

Hm, the touch controls might be best suited for the iOS...

Simple, fun stuff

I really liked the simple art style and the really fun special effect events. This is just enjoyable to look at. The gameplay is simple, but fun. It's not the most addicting or masterfully designed gameplay, but it also doesn't give you much reason not to keep playing. I really liked it, and I'd love to see medals implemented soon.

raitendo responds:

Cheers! Though the game looks like something the cat dragged in if you compare it to your stuff :)

A deep and entertaining game

It takes a while to really engulf the player in its mechanics, but once it does it's very enjoyable. There's so much to do in it. I had to stop to write this review, and I was still coming upon new things. This game is a great accomplishment, especially for a first-time programmer.

The-Swain responds:

I like to think that if this weren't my first game, I'd be spat upon for failing the Flash gaming genre in general. That's the only way I can get any sleep these days. :O

Radical

Nice selection of nice backgrounds, great songs, pretty menu system, very clear direction to it, very quickly responsive actions, very fun to punch the keyboard to What Is Love. All in all, great stuff. But I think you should write some dances out, like "QWAZTTRUVVSCPOIP repeated to You Are A Pirate" or something. You gave me a laugh.

BlueHippo responds:

Nice idea for version 2.

Awesome Game

The overall look was very nice, the AS was well-done, the sound effects were perfect, I didn't have to worry about time limits or danger cubes and best of all, it was a tiny filesize. Great job. The only thing I can say needs to be added is more levels. I wanted to play more. Other than that, kickass job.

GameBalance responds:

Thanks! It will. Give me time. I make it alone.

Pretty nice collection.

Kind of a weird submission. There wasn't any animation or short cartoons or anything. Oh well. I'm a little pissed with you, though. On the T-Shirt, you had a collection of your own work PLUS the Tenacious D Satan from the "Fuck Her Gently" music video. Nice try getting that past us, punk! Okay, now draw me!

RegisCartoons responds:

Ha ha Glad you noticed him. But I draw him by myself for the t-shirt.

I like to draw and complain about stuff.
