Alot of us have been complaining about this stuff for a long time. Glad to see you caught up. :)

I got into the top 50 twice. Luckily, it was back in the days when getting there was still difficult. Mass made it to like #49 and my Weird Al video got to #2

Even then I knew this was a telling sign as to what kind of films do well here or not.

I've given up hoping things will change here.
Its as fruitless as hoping Hollywood will stop movies of your childhood tv shows.

The system is broken.

But the system makes money.

Long live the system.

Actually, I mentioned this in a post all the way back in November. Seeing More Brawl Taunts at number one forced me to readdress this issue. I week from today, Indiada Jodes will be like #2 or 3, which will really make me lose it.

At least there are a few that stay up there, go to the audio portal, where the top 30 is completely different each week because voting 0 has a much bigger impact, and so the 0 voters come in and all hell breaks loose, and instead of going from 4.6 to 4.1 or 4.2, it goes down to a 3.1 or 3.2
The flash portal is so much better than the audio portal because it has that mass appeal and that mass of voters.

You are so true here, but it seems that Top 50 system works with that which one of those movies has the highest score.

If it would be based on the amount of views... Ugh, not going to mention it.

It seems that the list looks better on "most voted on submissions".

But seriously, Waterlollies does deserve the spot in the top ten though, but what's up with overrating Brawl that it takes over the whole portal?

Sure, Brawl must be fun (I'm european so I haven't gotten it yet), but this overrating goes too far.

Same goes for the Sonic Shorts Volumes, there are some cool parts, but the reason why they are so popular is that... They are Sonic! That's all that matters.

I do wish the best of all time list would be the same as it was used to be, some of my all time favorites have dropped down to top 200 even.

What's up with that?

I stopped caring about the whole list when it went all crazy, only few of those in the list are some all time NG great-ness.

Meh, I'm done for now.

Waterlollies totally deserves it, and Epsilon is creative enough to stand a chance. I was just illustrating a point, and I didn't want to go "look at the top 7 submissions, minus the second one."

I stopped caring about the system long ago, because I don't see it changing very soon. In fact I can only see it getting worse.

The problem is people thinking "Wow I love the game/movie this is referenced to, that makes this flash brilliant! 5/5 10/10. Time to vote 0 on interesting, amazingly animated flashes in the top 50 so this flash will be at the top". Along with people mindlessly voting 5 to submissions for stupid reasons.

Give it about a week, and the annoying, unfunny Indiada Jodes will be up the top.

Dude, I'm like so agree with you! There were such entries(Attack of the Black Mages 5 for instance) which stayed on the 1st place in the 50 best list for less than 2 days, while, wait... I've just noticed... where the hell... all those Best of the Best?!

FFA+?
Dad at work??

I don't mean that they have to remain there forever, sooner or later something greater appears and that's ok, but seriously...

Sonic Shorts Volume1?
Zelda: Heart for the Hero??
AchingDreamsHen taiDateSim???

Yeah, they are all "great" submissions, BUT IT'S THE LIST OF THE BEST FLASH ON THE WHOLE PORTAL(OR IN THE WORLD) OF THE WHOLE TIME WE'RE TALIKING HERE ABOUT!

And I agree with Rubber Ninja
GT episodes are awesome, but definetly not the best
The old voting system used such criterias like humour, violence, interactivity and so on, and it helped in voting a lot.

And to that TomaMoto guy, yeah, apart from being a portal NG is pretty much a museum of flash, because you can find almost every single woth-watching .swf from 1995 up to 2008 right here.
The point is - We are dooooomed D:
Nah, not really, but that's bullshit and you all know that =\

Oh, and in the end, KupaMan, I love u'r Ingus Series and MGS spoofs, good luck to both of us in the collab

Can I cry with you?

My shoulders are taken by my Dreams and Ambition.

As of right now:
Sonic Shorts 3 fell off the top 10.
Epsilon is:
Score Rank: #1
Popularity Rank: #6,912
5,320 votes | 76,914 views

Its obvious the system is broken that with a petty 5.3k votes and 77k views that something could be "Best of All Time." Its popularity rank is garbage. Why Is it so high on the list? Because The system is obviously broken. Every submission, just like everything else in peoples lives, are golden until their short attention span runs out, in which case whatever it is they used to love now is crap. That or they get tired of seeing it so they want it to go away (in this case with a flood of 0's). I think the rating system is abused by people and as said before, people either choose 0 or 5. I'm not going to say I'm not guilty of doing that in many cases but for the most part, I view a submission and I will vote along the lines of what I feel it deserves. There are submissions on my favorites list right now that I won't give 5's to, but they are still favorites none the less.
What can really be done to stop the abuse? Well, nothing. If there is monitoring done to people who vote massive 5's and 0's and they are penalized, they will throw massive fits and the children will cry and someone will have to change their diapers. Not me or you... probably admins. Lets be honest, it sucks enough to be an admin already, why make their job shittier. So what can be done? Probably nothing. The community will do as it pleases and submissions will go up and down and hit top ranks prematurely and fall off when they don't deserve it. To keep premature glorification and death to quality submissions at a minimum. It might be wise for someone, (I leave his name out of everything I do) to put a minimum on standards for the top list; something like a minimum popularity rank and view number. This would keep submissions with say 50k views from trumping something with 3/4 mil views for a week then falling off when people get bored with it. I'm not going to say what the minimum for an "all time" list would be, but come on, it does say "ALL TIME."

If you need to point your finger or find someone to blame for all of this, point at (he who should not be glorified) AND people on this website who purposely misspell every fucking work in their reviews and have the grammar of a 8 year old illegal immigrant. I mean, I can't spell for shit, but there IS a spell checker.

By the way do you remember what submission is popularity rank #1? It was on the front page for what seemed like years.

It's not a problem with the mechanics of the list, it's the mindset of the people. The website is fine how it runs. People just don't use the tools smart enough. They've Youtube'd the voting system.

YES YES! I have the same thing.. Back in the day the best of all times was really reserved for the best stuff EVER submitted! Now it's just.. not special anymore.. (or seems to)

All I mean is that Those Movies Are Not going to be in the same place.....
I dont know why you found that hard to read
hm....................

Cheers

Dude, I totally agree. So does coolio-niato. We have been talking about this situation for the past few weeks, and I was thinking about posting about it. But you beat me to it. EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING is getting super overrated. Whether its a shitty egoraptor parody, or making fun of some video game that did good. No one is voting fairly anymore. I remember when I first came here the top 50 NEVER changed. EVER. I mean people may get lucky and land in the top 49 every once in a while. But, they would never get to number 1 for some parody. Not saying its bad. I think its funny, just kind of overrated. And im sure lots of people agree. But, just because you like something alot, doesnt mean its top 50 material. Nothing beats waterlollies smooth animation, graphics, ect... I personally think its rediculious. Anyways, sry if I offended any of you top guys up there.

-St1k

You have a good point but, this has gone on for ever since i have been on NG. So the front page usual gets like 1-3 things on the top 50 and then they get voted off. Its the natural order of things.
Also, people improve over time so i'm guessing that people like the newer ones a whole lot better than the old ones. Just look at one of the old ones. ITS HORRID!

Watch as the zero-bombers move in.

You're right, it's sad, and people just auto-five everything, methinks.

I voted 5 on Epsilon, though. But it was more around a 4.5. And I vote 5 on animations like Aladdin, The Composer, MGA2, Tankmen: Infinity, Khale, etc - because they deserver a five. Unfortunately, zero bombers don't agree.

There's no solution to the problem though. >:(

Zero-bombers wouldn't exist if the majority of voters didn't just use the five.

I havent read most of the comments and im pretty sure you wont answer to this...

...but yeah, you are certainly right, and i really disagree with people saying that it wont change, It COULD change, but it looks like some higher power *cough* stafff *cough* dont wanna change it, or maybe they are too bussy with something else and this is unimportant right now... i say it could change, cause they at least can give a temporary solution, myabe they could add a tweak to the top 50 counting system, counting score + number of votes, and maybe + number of views, all of it summed up should give a better list... and voila, changed.

I dont know for sure the system they use to count, but it shouldnt be that hard, especially cause all of the movies here have those numbers (score, votes and views).

So yeah, im not saying the childish voting mind of newgrounds will change that easily, THAT, is almost impossible.

Here's my problem, though. The Newgrounds staff isn't to blame for this. The system used to work, and the mechanics are relatively unchanged. The problem is the people who come to this site, watch videos or play games, and give them five. Because of them, everything in the portal has a score significantly closer to a 5 than anything has ever had. It's likely contributed to Newgrounds' growth in popularity, which has led to a much less hardcore community that just goes with the pass-or-fail kind of voting they're used to. Nobody wants to think critically anymore.

Oh yah, i was in the top 50 for about 2 or 3 weeks too, and i really think i didnt deserved it, and im not saying that i hate the submissions in the top 50, just like you, i enjoyed most of them... like for example, More Brawl Taunts was very enjoyable and i think it was really funny, but yeah, not Top 50 material... or at least the way the top 50 should be.

Yawn.

Bye.

Every time I look at that list, and look at what's rank one, I wonder why it is that way. Take brawl taunts for example. Sure, you might have a chuckle at it, but there is no background, an once again all the other more deserving flashes are pushed aside by game related humor. Then I'll go and watch something which has been animated to near perfection, and the score rank/popularity rank or something like, 2,000. I put this down to users who know little to nothing about animation, and vote on something based only on wheter they get the jokes. At the same time, a lot of people only bother to vote when they see something they think is amazing, or whether they see something they think is terrible, not even bothering with all thee average-ish ones.

I think this is connected to a much bigger issue on Newgrounds:
Take away all the sequels and shit content based on video games from the Top 50 Of All Time.

You should have around 22 submissions left.

The bigger issue on Newgrounds is that there are very few artists.

I have thought the exact same thing. It didn't happen much until around November, when it got bad. Personally, I think 'Brawl Taunts' and 'More Brawl Taunts' are perfect examples of way overrated work. I'd think they would deserve a 3.75-3.90 and no higher without the new voting community.

you are absolutely right... I feel the same way... :'(

Well, I always vote depending on the score I think the Submission deserves.
If I Think it is ridiculously overrated, I give it a low score, even if i liked it.
