Retro graphics can't compensate for bad design

This is not a good game. I appreciate the old school design gone for here, but it's been done so much already, and far more successfully. It feel slow and sluggish, jumping feel imprecise, and the manner in which obstacles are generated make for occasionally impossible instances. It seems like not enough thought was put into that. With avoidance games, if you want people shooting for high scores, you have to make it possible -- albeit a challenge -- at all times. Within a matter of seconds, I had an obstacle above and below, with no possible way to avoid both.

You're right. I will improve the game next time. Thanks for the advice! :-)

Odd, interesting, tiny

The simple graphics look nice with the simple mechanics, and the levels do a decent job at adding increasingly difficult obstacles. But why so small? I know it is probably the way you wanted it, but it's not ideal when I have to zoom my browser in and lean closer to my screen just so see what's happening.
The game design itself could have benefited from a menu or stage select or something. Instead, we get the barest of bones here. A decent game was made here, but a lot of small things could have taken it a long way.

I completely agree with everything you said. The tiny game size is one of the strangest decisions I've ever made, and I certanily won't be doing that again.

Thanks for the review.

Strange, creepy

This game seems to be designed to creep me out. The sound, the VO, the design, all kind of puts me in an uncomfortable mood. I give it points for that. The game works like it's supposed to, it's just not all that fun.

Has some issues

The visual design, graphic effects, audio and sound incorporation were all well done, but the game itself had a handful of problems. For instance, I turned left... and then kept going left. I could go right and jump, but if I pressed nothing, I'd just keep going left. It didn't happen a bunch, but it was an issue I experienced more than once.
The game's design in general seems to have a hard time explaining what needs to be done. It wasn't immediately obvious on the first level to get the box down, and I'm still not event sure I did it as intended.
Getting past some of those issues, though, it's definitely a solid game, so kudos there.

Great style

The biggest accomplishment this game hits is looking great. Everything has a fantastic style to it, and it all fits together in a very cool looking world. The gameplay itself is fun, if a little bit stiff, and it's rarely outright upsetting when you fail. The levels are short, but have a good amount of money to be collected if you want to take the risk. I didn't get terribly far, before this review, but I hope to jump back in soon. Fun Stuff.

Really addictive and challenging

Though this isn't the first time I've seen it, turning the tables around on tower defense is a really fun concept, and it's explored very well here. The visuals are crisp and attractive, the tutorial is great, and the branching upgrades are really fun to flesh out over the many levels. The best thing about the gameplay is that it doesn't make failure an annoyance. Replaying levels is a major aspect of the game, and whether you have success in sacking a village or not, you're always gaining infamy, and pushing your progress forward. It's a fantastic solution to the frustration of a close defeat.

All in all, great job here. I'll be playing it to completion, no doubt. Any flash game that can demand that kind of attention is a great one in my book.

A whole lot of puzzling fun

There's a lot to like here. It's really slick, simple, and addictive. There's no struggle against the controls, which plagues a lot of flash games, just creative puzzle design. The levels vary pretty significantly in difficulty, however, which seems to dilute the sense of skill progression. Other than that, it's a near-perfect puzzle game that could excel on just about any platform. I look forward to seeing where this might go in the future (iOS, PSN, XBLA, Steam).

Hm, the touch controls might be best suited for the iOS...

Oh, my

I forgot I participated in this. My entry has to be 3 or 4 years old. I'm glad this project is finally done. There's some great entries to be had here.

Addictive and original

I really loved it. Very good stuff here. The level design will probably be an unsung hero of this game, but I'm giving it props for being so intelligently constructed. Every pixel the player can collect in any specific form is just within reach, while every one they can't are just out of grasp. There was obviously a lot more thought to their placement than just random splotching like so many developers do.

The art was very fun and fitting. I loved the clean precision of everything.

The music was fantastic. It might actually be the best thing about this game. It's incredibly catchy, addictive, and well-done.

The reviewers saying it's "incredibly hard" are retards. The hardest aspect of the game is placing your jumps appropriately, but the lack of any real punishment for failing a jump makes it entirely a thing of patience.

One point I would say needed more clarity is the controls. They were all easy to figure out, but it doesn't really excuse the lack of identification for the player.

Overall, however, this game was great. It definitely kept my attention, and I'd love to play more games like this in the future.

Simple, fun stuff

I really liked the simple art style and the really fun special effect events. This is just enjoyable to look at. The gameplay is simple, but fun. It's not the most addicting or masterfully designed gameplay, but it also doesn't give you much reason not to keep playing. I really liked it, and I'd love to see medals implemented soon.

raitendo responds:

Cheers! Though the game looks like something the cat dragged in if you compare it to your stuff :)

I like to draw and complain about stuff.
