Two cameos in one Halloween

And I haven't even done anything this year! Anyway, good stuff. I was surprised by the rather extensive cameo by Blockhead, and certainly surprised to see (older model) Ingus in there too. I'm flattered, but you know, this sort of thing is bad for my unjustly large ego. Overall very funny stuff. The floating eyes bit was probably my favorite part in the cartoon. The voice acting was great and the villain sounds a lot like Professor Ratigan. Overall, great job.

squeakytoad responds:

Ah, yeah. I was informed that was an older model. I watched the series last year (loved it, btw, make more), and when I got around to this thing, I had forgotten that Ingus had changed appearance, using episode one (the quickest one I could get- the scene was last minute) for reference.

With these characters, I generally love to throw in cameos. It keeps drawing background characters from being a boring ordinary task.
As for the Blockhead character, I plan to, from now on, try to get an animator I really like the work of, like Swain, to play a cameo part.
It's fun for me to animate, and while it may alienate the unfamiliar audience for just a few seconds, the familiarity that fans of those series thrills them enough to make it worth it.

Thanks, man! Really glad you liked it.

Great stuff

Lemon Demon's song was great, but unlike many other videos from his songs, this did it justice. Everything was well-fit and well animated. The only gripe (which is hardly even one) is that the animation by the end was better than the beginning, so upon a second viewing, it starts out looking worse than you remember. Otherwise, great stuff. Very enjoyable, and one of Halloween '07's best cartoons yet.

3D spinarounds never look as good as normal front-on animation. :3 I'm only human!

Well animated but uninspired

Everything looking nice is always a great plus in flash cartoons, but without something worthwhile behind it, a pretty face doesn't mean much. I'd like to say it's just a run-of-the-mill violent Halloween short, but run-of-the-mill has become something with a twist or an unexpected villain. This didn't even deliver that. We've began to expect the twist -- like that this guy wasn't evil or the kid kills the guy -- but instead, we see something below our expectations. Overall, it hurts the cartoon as a whole.

SlanSai responds:

First of all, thanks for the review, constructive critisism is always appreciated.

-spoiler-

Though, the red tall guy wasnt really supposed to be evil. He just tries to help out the poor monsterling, its not his fault that everything went terribly wrong... so well.. I guess my story telling skills needs a bit of work then :)

That was amazing

Jason Steele and Krinkels would be proud. It was pretty true to the Madness one, and made very interesting with unicorns. This thing is underrated. The screen size is the only issue with this cartoon. Otherwise, funny stuff.

digitalk responds:

Thanks XD

A worthy #2

Everyone was pretty mad that the original #2 (1.5) was so short, so it's great this one was long to make up for it. And this was incredibly funny to boot. The ending was hilarious, and the easter egg was great too. I hope it doesn't take as long as it's been to get episode 3. Also, it would be cool, if it's possible with all the licensed stuff used, to make a TANKMEN DVD eventually. They could be prizes for monthly stuff.

JohnnyUtah responds:

id make a dvd...i need to stop using copyrighted music though

Funny, but...

The thing that really killed this cartoon for me was the terrible lip syncing. It's not just that it didn't look like it matched up, but that the mouth shapes were just unfitting. It just looked like their jaws were always open and just their lips moved. Also, the cartoon didn't go anywhere hilarious. It just stayed at a level of amusement, simply because it was unique, but not because it was entirely fascinating.

Frogcloset responds:

fair point.

dont know what happened with the syncing, put a lot of effort into it but just couldn't get the get the mouths right also think i over did the jaw movement.

Ill take unique as a victory.

thanks

I don't know why you needed three

Oh well. Three cartoons that took almost no time and weren't completely terrible is pretty good.

Kuoke responds:

Indeed. I need three because ... well I don't know what the word for '2 part series' where as 3 is a trilogy, so meh.

Being topical doesn't make it good.

I don't have a problem with short cartoons. I just didn't find anything about it funny. Not to mention the logos following the cartoon were about as long as the cartoon itself. Good audio quality though. It's always good to her clean, crackle-free audio.

Kuoke responds:

As I said. But others did, so it's a matter of opinion there.

Demonstrating your skills of flash tweens

Though this was mildly entertaining, it didn't show off any animation skills most demo reels are meant for. Instead, it was a whole lot of flash tweening, which isn't an incredibly desirable skill for people looking for animators. And for us Newgrounds folks, this is just clips of what we've all seen before. So this isn't to say the stuff isn't entertaining; it's just that I shouldn't be expected to see this as a new submission.

Wonchop responds:

Well, to be fair, most of the flash based industry (as far as stuff on Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and MTV is concerned) is pretty tween heavy.
But I kinda see your point, I haven't really done much fbf as of late. I'll try and rectify that.

BLLEEGAAHHH!!

I don't care what you said about the voice acting; it's part of your movie and is to be used to determine the overall quality of the piece.
The voice acting was pretty bad. It didn't seem like they were threatened. The last line of the cartoon was pretty funny, which probably wasn't intentionally so.
It didn't make sense to me without having my own ideas why they didn't bother to let the guy in. Judging by the fact that their windows and door were boarded up, it's obvious they know about the zombies. So the fact that they were just like "What? Huh?" when someone ran to the door screaming "Let me in!" when zombies have been running rampant is pretty silly.
The violence and action was okay, but there wasn't enough. Usually with violence I fall between the idea of a little bit of fantastic stuff, or a lot of some pretty good stuff. This was a little of some pretty good stuff.
Art-wise, the people looked a little odd at times, but otherwise acceptable. I didn't like the fact that the girl leaning over the railing at the beginning was drawn overly sexified (especially in the middle of a zombie invasion) and would have been like twice as tall as the guy if she leaned up.
Overall, it was pretty good. If you make another one of these, do more action and make the violence look a little better. If those two fields are any better and longer lasting than what was here, it should make up for any shortcomings it has.

Gi-go responds:

Hey sweet but one thing-

Its a flash movie =O

I like to draw and complain about stuff.
